Eating Disorders: Separating the Person from the Disease
We will examine the state-of-the-art treatment options and biggest challenges with eating disorders. Participants will learn what to do with their “dual diagnosis” patients and learn that there is seldom just one diagnosis. The “hands-on” approach to therapeutic options will give participants some tools to use in their practice.
About the Speaker: Vicki Berkus, MD, PhD, CEDS is a Senior Fellow for Remuda Ranch at The Meadows. In her previous role as Medical Services Advisor at Remuda Ranch, Dr. Berkus served as a consultant, supervisor, program developer, speaker, and general advocate for continued excellence in the treatment of eating disorders. She specializes in adolescent and adult psychiatry, eating disorders full spectrum, and sports psychiatry. Dr. Berkus has also served as president of the International Association of Eating Disorders Professionals (iaedp), holds eating disorders certification (CEDS) through iaedp, and is a current board member and head of the iaedp education committee. She is active in promoting certification and education in the field of eating disorders for professionals. Her memberships include the Academy for Eating Disorders (AED), The American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM), The American Society of Bariatric Medicine (ASBP) and the International Society for Sports Psychiatry (ISSP). Dr. Berkus has authored numerous articles, as well as the highly acclaimed book 10 Commitments to Mental Fitness.

About the Speaker: Andrew Romanoff currently serves as the CEO of Mental Health Colorado. He served in the Colorado House of Representatives from 2001 to 2009 and as Speaker of the House from 2005 to 2009. He was a member of the House Health, Environment, Welfare and Institutions Committee, the House Judiciary Committee, and the House Criminal Justice Committee. Among other achievements, Romanoff authored the Colorado Economic Recovery Act (Referendum C) and Building Excellent Schools Today (BEST), the largest investment in school construction in state history. Romanoff also sponsored laws to expand screening, diagnosis and treatment for mental health and substance use disorders.
